alan,

i saw what you said in karen's weblog. it's something that i've always wondered about. "What if you trusted God completely to fulfill what He said in Romans 8:28? "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.""

let me start by saying i'm certainly not responding for her. i have struggled with the concept of "casting all my cares" upon God.

this is a very nice idea. but what things can we say serve God's purpose? helping your family? going to school? going to work? planning a wedding? are these things necessary to live a Godly life? do these things serve others?

some of the things that she does serve others, and thus, serves God. some don't. education, for example, does not directly play a part in serving God. it may in the future somehow, but not immediately. yet it causes worry. that is just one example.

i guess my real question is: what is the tangible meaning of "trusting God completely to fulfill what He said" He would do? how can one cease worrying and still accomplish things that they need to do to have what they believe to be a fulfilling life? i worry all the time. i hate it, but it never changes. it may have shifted over the years through different things, but it's ever-present. i just don't understand how one "gives it up" to God. that's always seemed to silly to me. praying about it does not make it go away. actually doing something about what you need to do DOES, but it doesn't stop worry. do you see what i'm saying?

i'm sorry that this was a huge ramble. feel free to respond (i hope you will) to me in e-mail, blog, call me, whatever. love you bro.
